The 59th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Saturday 11th July 1953 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 5880 sovereigns was availble, 900 sovereigns to the second and 580 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by HH Aga Khan, trained by Richard Carver senior and ridden by Charlie Smirke. The winner won by a neck in 2 minutes 33.6 seconds, with 3 lengths between second and third. |
